Meet Claire

Licensed Master Social Worker

EMDR Trained Therapist

Hi, I'm Claire (she/her)!

I am a queer therapist and social worker and I’m so happy you found Tohwikeli! Since receiving my Master of Science in Social Work from UT Austin in 2023, my clinical work has centered on providing trauma-focused counseling interventions to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. I joined this team because I care deeply about working around other therapists who understand how structural issues inform our individual struggles.

It is my goal to walk alongside you as your collaborator in whatever has brought you to therapy, even if you aren’t 100% sure what it is you want out of this work. You don’t have to have it all figured out–just come as you are, and we’ll get there together. If you are struggling, you are not alone–congratulations on taking this first step.

Person-centered therapy excites me because it affirms my belief that every client is unique, and every person already possesses what they need to heal. This healing power is activated in relationships, which is why my top priority is building safety and security in our therapeutic relationship.

I am passionate about helping clients gain greater self-knowledge in service of gaining a greater sense of agency, confidence, connectedness, and freedom. I do this using a combination of conventional talk therapy and more body-based approaches, such as EMDR.

If you are anything like me, you grew up with powerful cultural and religious authorities telling you that you were born broken, that you needed to beg forgiveness simply for being you, and that any deviations from extremely narrow moral codes would result in exile. As I continue to transform my hurt into power, I hope to aid others in their own journey toward self-sovereignty.

I seek to practice from a posture of anti-racism, of fat, queer, and mad liberationism, and from a collectivist perspective on healing and wellness. I believe that anti-oppressive therapists can create pockets of safety and healing despite the toll systemic inequities take on our spirits and bodies–in other words, freedom can be created in unfree conditions.

I believe therapy can play an important role in giving individuals the tools they need to navigate a world full of injustice, and to play an active role in creating a better world. Just as no one can pour from an empty cup, we must resource ourselves in order to give to our communities. I acknowledge the historical power differentials between mental health professionals and their clients, particularly those from marginalized communities and identities. I seek to create therapeutic relationships where power is shared in which clients feel safe speaking up when something is not working for them.

Outside my role as a therapist, I enjoy hiking, yoga, dancing with my friends, and cooking for my loved ones.
